I Want You!
Our
Military Needs Your Help!
Remember the recruiting poster with Uncle Sam pointing his finger right at you with the message "I Want You". Well, "We Want You" to help our Military Personnel and their families.
Because
of the success we have had in finding financial planners to participate with Moneywise
in the Military programs, the Foundation for Financial Planning has been asked to support an effort to find financial
planners to help provide advice and support for our military personnel and
their families across the nation.
Personal Financial Counseling
MHN Government Services, a subcontractor for the Department of Defense, launched the Military & Family Life Consultant program in 2004. Military & Family Life Consultants (MFLCs) provide informal, solution- oriented support to Service Members and their families. Through this program they send consultants on assignments to military installations throughout the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii, Europe and the Pacific Rim.
Since 2006, they have also provided Personal Financial Counseling (PFC) services to help Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Service Members and their families address the financial challenges of military life and deployments. As you can imagine with sometimes extended deployments, the need for these services is growing. As the father of an airman serving our country, I can relate to the additional stress many of our Military Personnel and their families face during deployment.
As financial planners, you know that sometimes poor decisions are made when someone is under stress or duress. Unscrupulous individuals are also preying on our Service Members and their families with offers of hope and protection, many times pushing high commissioned products that do not necessarily meet their needs, and offers for more credit. However, very few are offering unbiased practical financial advice.
The
work of MHN Personal Financial Counseling is a vital, worthwhile program.
Practitioners who participate in the PFC network find the work extremely
rewarding. You can volunteer now to be a PFC.
Help Needed Now!
There is an increased demand for additional PFCs in a variety of roles to assist our Military Personnel and their families. The time commitment varies from being on call for a few hours to being available to assist over several months.
Programs throughout the country are being planned now, but request for advice and counsel is coming in already from our Service Personnel and their families, especially during deployment. There is a great need to build the pool of financial planning professionals now to be available for the very growing need.
We are reaching out to our great donors for your help again. Our country needs your help and we are asking you to consider serving in the capacity as a Personal Financial Counselor through MHN.
Attached you will find a program brochure which describes the Personal Financial Counselor role and each type of PFC service delivery. Please take a moment to become further acquainted with the program! Don't wait - Volunteer Now! Take the time now to go to the website link and complete the online questionnaire.
We encourage you to also share this with fellow professionals you think may qualify and may be interested in these contract opportunities. Thank you in advance for considering answering the call for this compelling work. Our Military Personnel Need You!
P.S. The stipends for this program are funded by the Department of Defense and not by the Foundation for Financial Planning.
